Victory Monday coming up, and a No. 6 seed for the 12-5 Commanders!

The Washington Commanders won with 00:02 seconds remaining against the Cowboys with Marcus Mariota as the game-winning QB in relief of Jayden Daniels who got to rest in the second half. With the win, the Commanders finished their regular season with a 12-5 record, and the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.

In today’s win, it was Mariota connecting with Terry McLaurin for that game-winning touchdown pass that also has some history attached to that TD pass. With that touchdown catch, McLaurin scored his 13th touchdown of the season, which broke the franchise record for the most receiving touchdowns in a single season.

The Commanders will also finish with the 4th best record in the NFC, and tied for the 6th best in the NFL with the Ravens with that 12-5 record. What a turnaround for Washington going from their 4-13 record in 2023 that secured them the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft that put them in the spot to draft Daniels, and it is Daniels who led the Commanders to the playoffs.

Here are the first round playoff scenarios for the Washington Commanders:

  • If the Los Angeles Rams win today against the Seattle Seahawks, the Commanders will play at the Rams.
  • If the Rams lose, the Commanders will travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers.

With the Buccaneers win today, the Atlanta Falcons were eliminated from the postseason, and Tampa won the NFC South. Tampa finished with a 10-7 record, and their first win of the season was actually against the Commanders. But neither team is really the same as we saw on September 8th when the teams faced each other to begin the 2024 season.

The first round of the playoffs will take place on Saturday and Sunday of next weekend.

UPDATED: The Rams lost on Sunday which means the Washington Commanders will play in Tampa against the Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 8 pm ET.
